NEFA’s Fund for the Arts awarded a planning grant to the Massachusetts College of Art and Design for the planning phase of a sustainable-design project along Huntington Avenue. West Barnstable-based artist Thomas Whittlesey was selected to create a public art/landscape installation in conjunction with MassArt's sustainable-architecture course. Whittlesey first proposed a pedestrian-powered sculpture that captures force exerted by footsteps on a kinetic stairway (pictured). The latest design, Light Wind Park, consists of wind-powered light tubes that imitate reeds, which are reminiscent of the marshland that the campus is situated on.
