Skilled weaver Elizabeth Perry will work with apprentice artist Danielle Hill to expand her knowledge of a broad range of weaving styles from the New England region. They will meet for several three-hour hands-on classes throughout the year and visit New England museums to research traditional Northeastern weaving designs and methods. Their apprenticeship project will result in Danielle’s creation of hand-woven and naturally-dyed sashes, legging ties, drawstring bags, and finger woven straps, among many other items. Elizabeth feels that, as a master artist, it is her responsibility to help cultivate an interest in traditional skills in her home community and that this apprenticeship will ensure that these skills continue to be practiced and passed on.
